In the Junior AI and Chat Bots camp, children delve into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning. Using visual programming tools like Scratch, campers will learn to create their own personalized chatbots. The curriculum focuses on understanding basic algorithms, which are sets of instructions computers follow, to enable their chatbots to engage in conversations, answer questions, and even tell jokes. Through hands-on projects, students will explore foundational machine learning concepts such as collecting data, training a model, and testing it to recognize patterns and language. The camp also introduces the ethics of AI, discussing algorithmic bias and the importance of 'good data' for responsible AI use. Campers will gain practical experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP), learning how computers interpret human speech into code. By the end of the week, each camper will have a hosted chatbot project they can continue to develop and share, bridging the gap between basic coding and advanced data science.
A typical day includes general check-in, an all-camp science demonstration, multiple S.T.E.A.M rotations, snack breaks, lunch/recess, outdoor team and skill-building activities, and clean-up before camper pickup.
